The Bow of Shiva
Shiv Dhanushya
A contemporary take on Shiva's bow - also known as The Pināka.
According to the Shiva Purana (an ancient text on legends and traditional lore of Shiva), Lord Shiva deployed the Pināka in his duel against Ganesha, who had been appointed to stand guard while his mother Parvati bathed.
According to Padma Purana (an ancient text on the legends of Bramha - The Creator), Shiva employed the Pināka to combat Jalandhara - The son of the ocean.
This depiction of the Pināka is the artist’s imaginative interpretation of the two ancient texts as an interwoven narrative.
Watercolor and gouache on cotton paper 12x12 in.
