Warkari
The Warkari people of Maharashtra are a devout and vibrant community, deeply rooted in the traditions of bhakti (devotion) to the Hindu god Vithoba (Vitthal). Their lives are marked by pilgrimage, as they journey in colorful processions to the sacred town of Pandharpur, singing sacred hymns (abhangas) that echo with both faith and fervor. The Warkaris are known for their simple yet profound spirituality, wearing a distinctive attire of dhotis and turbans, often carrying the sacred palkhi (palanquin) of Vithoba. Their rituals are infused with a sense of deep communal unity, as they walk together in rhythm, their voices blending in a chorus of devotion. They embody a blend of humility, resilience, and an unwavering connection to the divine and the land they inhabit.
