Indian Landscapes

Ellora 2

This award winning landscape painting captures the stunning setting and grandeur of this UNESCO World Heritage site, of the sacred temples in Ellora, Aurangabad, India.

The Ellora Caves, located in the state of Maharashtra, are an awe-inspiring collection of rock-cut temples and monasteries, carved into the cliffs, dating back to the 5th to 10th centuries. They represent a fusion of different architectural styles, with elements from Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain religions.

The complex is a leading example of Indian rock-cut architecture, of over 100 caves. Cave 16, depicted in this painting toward the South-East direction, features the largest single monolithic rock excavation in the world - The Kailash temple, a chariot-shaped monument dedicated to the Lord Shiva.

EFAC honored this painting with the award in May 2021 in their 6th Annual International Art Contest
