Holy Man

This award-winning portrait of a local holy man from Varanasi, India captures the unique essence of this ancient city, known for its cultural and historical significance. Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and embodies the very essence Hinduism, particularly with the Ganges River flowing through the city.

He appears to be standing on on the banks of the sacred Ganges river at the Manikarnika Ghat—one of the most revered cremation sites in Varanasi. The artist has skillfully captured this holy man’s expression reflecting deep spirituality, serenity, and a sense of daily life tied to the sacred rituals performed in the city.
